Police are appealing for witnesses following a road collision in which a driver of a car was seriously injured.

The collision happened on Grange Street, Clayton le Moors, at around 8.20pm yesterday.

It is thought the blue Fiat Stilo was travelling along a left hand bend from Grange Street onto Church Street when it collided with a lamp post and railings that form a small roundabout.

The driver and passenger, both local men aged 49, were taken to Blackburn Hospital.

The driver remains in a serious condition and the passenger was treated for a number of fractures.

The road was closed for around four hours.

PS 3610 John Jennings-Wharton, of the East Road Policing Unit, said: “We have already traced some witnesses but we would be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car travelling in the Grange Street area prior to the incident or who indeed witnessed the collision itself.”

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 quoting log 1196 of February 20.
