ONE wedding guest certainly brought some sunshine to one couple married in Morecambe.

Cheryl and Chris Heaton-Ward, both from Leeds, married on Sunday, October 19, at The Midland Hotel and were looking forward to having their photograph taken with the famous Eric Morecambe statue on the nearby promenade.

But before their wedding, the landmark was vandalised and it seemed the newlyweds’ wish was not to be granted.

Wedding photographer Jonathan Bean said: “I passed Frithy, a local guy who dresses up as the Eric statue sometimes, doing his thing on the Prom and went over to ask if he wouldn’t mind making a surprise visit.

“During the Wedding Breakfast to announce a special surprise guest.

“Frithy entered the room to a rapturous applause and stayed to have photos with the guests and, at Frithy’s request, Chris and Cheryl made a donation to Help For Heroes as a thank you.”
