Wild landings for Bewick’s Swans

Migration: Bewicks Swans, the smallest of three types of swan, touch down

Migration: Bewicks Swans, the smallest of three types of swan, touch down

The changing of the seasons heralds the beginning of one of nature’s greatest events - migration.

An inbuilt survival instinct forces millions of birds to fly thousands of miles from their breeding grounds in the far north in search of snow-free climates and an abundance of food.

These Bewick’s Swans migrate to the UK from the Russian Arctic over 2,500 miles away. The WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre at Burscough will be holding migration walks, talks and events. Bewick’s swans are the smallest of the three types of swan found in the wild in Britain.
