White Christmas

Tonight's the night! Wigan's town centre lights will be switched on this evening – and everyone is welcome to go along and join in the fun.

Laura White, – star of X Factor 2008 – is the main celebrity for the switch on event between 5.30pm and 7.30pm in Market Place.

Live entertainment during the evening also includes singing from Wigan's Got Talent Winner Scott Chapman, local band Boomin and Wigan's very own Father Christmas!

Stars, mascots and cheerleaders from Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic will also take part in the town's Christmas light switch-on extravaganza and will be available afterwards in both The Galleries and Grand Arcade for autographs and pictures.

It is the start of a series of festive events in the town centre, including a family Christmas event on Sunday.

It features Santa and his reindeer parade which includes more than 300

parade members.

The parade starts at 1pm from Mesnes Park and is due to arrive at Market Place at 1.30pm.

A whole day of free, family festive entertainment is planned!

Mike Matthews, Wigan Town Centre manager said: "This Christmas, Wigan town centre, The Galleries and Grand Arcade have organised a wonderful family entertainment programme packed full of local talent!"
