Wheelie bins to be rolled out in homes

Residents in Fylde are being invited to hit the road to find out more about their new bins.

Householders in the borough are getting new brown and blue wheelie bins to replace current green boxes and white sacks.

Residents can find out more at a series of Fylde Council roadshows.

The first will take place tomorrow between 10am and 2pm at Parish Park, School Lane, Newton. Kirkham residents can drop into Morrisons between the same times on April 17, while those in Freckleton can go to the Coach and Horses on April 19.

Coun Albert Pounder, cabinet member for operational services, said: “The simpler we make recycling, the better for residents as it will keep Landfill Tax down and also reduces environmental damage.

“The current box and sack system has not had sufficient capacity for many households, leading people to have any number of boxes and sacks. That problem will go away because the wheeled bins can hold more.

“The sacks in particular have never been popular.”
