The weather could do little to dampen Jennifer Miller’s spirits as she was crowned Queen of the Calder Vale Children’s Festival.

The 10-year-old was given her crown by her grandmother, Jean Miller, who said she was, “very proud” of her granddaughter.

Jennifer’s mum, Pam Miller, who is on the organising committee for the festival, said: “Apart from the weather, it was a great day.

“We had to cancel the duck race and the children’s race but other than that, everything went ahead including a tombola, fancy dress competition, games and a home-made tea and cake stall.

“And we have already got things in the pipeline for next year.”

A crowd of around 150 people enjoyed the annual festival, which is held on the second Saturday of June each year.
