Want a good laugh? Come 'ere…there's more

A comic legend has teamed up with the Lancashire Evening Post to celebrate St Patrick's Day in style.

Millions of people worldwide celebrate the feast day of the patron saint of Ireland every year, so we have joined up with one of the Emerald Isle's most famous sons to mark the special occasion.

Jimmy Cricket, best-known for his wellies and catchphrases, "come 'ere" and "…and there's more", is marking the special day with a seven-minute video performance exclusively for LEP readers, including one of his most popular sketches - 'A Letter from Mammy'.

Born in County Tyrone, Jimmy has lived in the North West of England since the 1970s - the Pontin's holiday camps in Southport and Morecambe were among his first working venues in the region - but he has never forgotten his roots.

"It's your home, it's where you came from. I still dream in Irish!" he laughs.

"When you become an immigrant, you miss home and you celebrate St Patrick's Day. You're proud and you want to celebrate your Irishness and your culture."

Jimmy, who plans to release a DVD later this year, has previously produced a CD full of songs dedicated to Ireland.

"'I'm dreaming of a far off land' is a CD I'm especially proud of is," he says.

"I've written 15 songs all about the Emerald Isle, some comedy, some extolling the virtues of the Emerald Isle and some about immigrants, so there will be the odd tear flowing."

His other CDs include 'Jimmy Cricket - A Bee in His Bonnet' and 'The Best of Jimmy Cricket'.
