A befriending service run by a Lancashire Hospice is appealing for more volunteers so it can extend the scheme.

St Catherine’s Hospice in Lostock Hall runs the Befriending service to provide a lifeline of comfort and support for those affected by a life-limiting illness.

The service run by the Family Support Team gives carers the opportunity to take a break by providing a trained volunteer to sit with a ‘cared for’ person for up to four hours each week.

The team is now looking for new volunteers, with the aim of extending the service to reach people living alone with life-limiting illnesses, as well as those who have a carer.

The Hospice is offering a three-day training course, from March 19 to 21. For more information, call Nikki Dobson on 01772 629171 or email nikki.dobson@stcatherines.co.uk
