A man has died following a crash on a Lancashire road has been named as John Antony Flitcroft from Clifton.

The 62-year-old was killed in the crash at about 8pm on Tuesday, on the A583 Kirkham Bypass near the junction with the B5192 Dowbridge.

Police said the blue MG sports car was travelling in the direction of Preston when it came off the road and hit a tree.

Mr Flitcroft was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed for four hours to allow the investigation to take place.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

PS David Hurst of the Road Policing Team said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who are being supported by specialist officers.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area or who witnessed what happened to get in touch so that we can establish exactly how the collision occurred.”
