A business breakfast featuring UKIP leader Nigel Farage has had to switch venues because of a long-standing covenant forbidding political meetings.

The event on Thursday, April 21 – part of Lytham’s St George’s Day Festival – was originally planned to be held in a marquee on Lytham Green but Fylde Council, as ‘keepers’ of The Green, has confirmed such a meeting would not be allowed under the terms of the covenant and the meeting will now be held at Lowther Pavilion.

A spokesman for the Festival said: “We are very grateful to Tim Lince, chairman of the Lowther Trust and the Trustees for allowing us to move this event to The Pavilion.

A Fylde Council spokesman said: “The Green was given to the public with the proviso – in a covenant – that it should not be used for political or religious meetings..”
