Two people had to be rescued from a car after a crash on the M6 motorway.

They were trapped in the vehicle after a collision with another car in the outer lane of the southbound carriageway between junctions 32 for Broughton and 31A for Preston.

Fire crews were called to the motorway at 6.55pm and used hydraulic equipment to release from.

They were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Two lanes of the motorway were closed after the incident, causing long delays for drivers in the area.
