Two die in eight vehicle crash

Latest news from the Lancashire Evening Post

Latest news from the Lancashire Evening Post

Two people have died following an eight vehicle crash on a motorway.

The collison happened on the M6 northbound, just after Burton services near Carnforth, between junctions 35 and 36, at 8.15am on Monday.

A man driving a Spar lorry and another man driving a blue lorry both died at the scene.

The motorway was shut in both directions to allow two air ambulances to land and take a van driver and Peugeot 307 driver to hospital.

The southbound side has reopened but the northbound carriageway remained shut for police investigations.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: “Investigators are on scene. Specially trained family liaison officers have been appointed and are ensuring that family members are supported and kept fully informed.

“Police would like to thank motorists for their patience so far. Diversions remain in place which motorists are encouraged to use. There are extensive delays in the area and these are likely to continue for the foreseeable future while the scene is cleared.

“Drivers are asked to use alternative routes wherever possible.”
