Tune in, turn on to Karl's Radio Song

His dream is to get to the top of the pops...

Now that dream may come true for a Preston musician whose first single will be released this weekend.

Karl Eland, who lives in Brook Street, has recorded a single which hits the shelves in HMV Preston today.

Radio Song is the first release for Karl, who has been playing guitar since he was 16, but he has already written a full album and has started work on his second album.

He said: "My music is probably best described as acoustic rock.

"I am influenced by mainly classic American singer songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty."

Karl studied American music and poetry during his American Studies degree at the University of Central Lancashire and says this helps him in his songwriting.

He has been performing at venues around Preston, including the 12 Bar and the New Brittania, for five years.

After graduating with a masters degree, he decided to dedicate his free time to trying to break into the professional world of music.

After reading about the Government's New Deal for Musicians programme, Karl went for an interview and was accepted on to the scheme.

He was assigned a personal adviser and music industry consultant, who acts as a mentor offering advice and support to succeed in the music business.

Karl said: "I have been given advice on things like how to put together a good demo package, copyright law and royalties, recording techniques and playing live."

Karl recorded Radio Song at the Assembly Line recording studio at Red Scar in Preston, and has arranged for HMV to sell it in their Fishergate store. He is hoping it will be the first step in his career as a professional singer-songwriter and the next step is to get interest from a record label and record an album.

The single had its first airing on BBC Radio Lancashire following Karl's first radio interview on the Ted Robbins Show.

Karl added: "Things are going really well at the moment.

"I am hoping with the single being out I will attract some interest from the industry."
