Tributes have been pouring in after a Preston man died in a crash on a busy Cumbria road.

Mark McNulty, of Fir Trees Road, Lostock Hall, was rushed to Furness General Hospital following the incident on the A5092 near Gawthwaite on Friday morning.

The 26-year-old, understood to be a keen Preston North End fan, died in hospital from the injuries he sustained when the Ford Transit van he was driving collided with a lorry at around 10.10am.

A North End flag and scarf were among items left at the roadside by friends in tribute to Mr McNulty.

Chad Vickers wrote on Facebook: “An awesome guy. Loved by everyone he come into contact with. You’ve left so many good memories with us all bud.”

Jen Williams wrote: “You will be a very missed face at North End games.”

Cumbria Police said trained officers are supporting Mr McNulty’s family and an investigation is underway into the cause of the accident.

The driver of the lorry escaped with minor injuries, police said.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Inquiries around the circumstances of the collision are continuing.”

Anyone with information about the crash should call Cumbria Police on 101.
