The family of a devoted grandma who died following a car accident have paid tribute to her.

Eunice Whalley, 79, from Chorley, was a front seat passenger in a Ford Focus which was in collision with a green Saab 95 at the junction of Watery Lane and Port Way in Ashton, Preston, on Saturday evening.

Paramedics and police attended the scene and no injuries were reported or apparent to the occupants of both vehicles. However, Mrs Whalley later took ill at home and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital where she died.

Today, her family paid tribute to “a much loved wife, mother, grandmother and sister.”

In a statement, they said: “She loved little children and gained much joy from spending time with her own grandchildren.

“After spending 11 years in Canada, she was happy to return to Whittle-le-Woods where she grew up.

“Walking around her childhood village gave her many happy memories and she enjoyed conversing with people she met on her travels.

“She also enjoyed many trips to Australia to visit her daughter and Canada to see friends.

“She will be sadly missed.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened about 5.30pm at the traffic lights.

PS Gareth Hill of South Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of Eunice at this difficult time. An investigation into how the collision occurred is underway and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us.”
