Travellers moving on

Moving on: The travellers caravans on the car park alongside the Preston Healthport on Vicarage Lane, Fulwood

Travellers have set up on the car park of a Preston health centre.

The group have appeared on the car park of the Preston Healthport centre on Vicarage Lane, Fulwood.

It is believed they arrived on Tuesday night and a large number of caravans were on the car park yesterday morning.

The group also had a number of horses and cars on the site.

A spokesman for the NHS Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust, which operates the health centre, confirmed its estates team had spoken with the travellers.

He said: “We have met with the travellers and it is hoped that they will vacate the site amicably.”

One resident, who lives on nearby Watling Street Road, said they had first noticed the travellers on Wednesday morning.

She said: “They just appeared overnight, one minute they weren’t there and the next they were.

“Someone said they had been elsewhere in Preston for the past few days, but no-one is sure if they are moving on staying put.

“They have not been any problem, but they do have a few horses which have been running around on Vicarage Lane.”

A spokesman for Lancashire Police confirmed it had received no complaints from members of the public about the travellers.

On Monday night, a small group of travellers left a car park off Olivers’ Place, Fulwood, after staying for five days.
