A WOMAN had to be cut free from the wreckage of her car after it collided with another vehicle on the main Preston to Southport road just before noon on Friday.

Fire crews from Tarleton and Southport were called out to rescue the driver of a blue Vauxhall Corsa using cutting gear.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance, together with the driver of the other vehicle, a silver Hyundai. Neither was thought to be seriously hurt.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called out at just after 11.40am following reports of a two-vehicle collision on Southport New Road at its junction with Moss Lane.

“The driver of the Corsa had to be cut out of her car. Both drivers were taken to hospital, but our reports are that they only suffered minor injuries.”
