A man killed after his car hit a tree has been named by police.

Kevin Williams, 38, from Leyland, was killed when an MG ZT-T he was driving collided with a tree on Pope Lane, Whitestake, near Preston, at around 8.25pm on Friday.

Polce say the car was being driven in the direction of Chainhouse Lane. As the car passed Lindle Lane, it is believed to have left the carriageway before colliding with a tree.

Sergeant David Hurst of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic accident where a man has sadly died and my thoughts are with his family at this time.

“An investigation is now underway and I would appeal to anybody who may have witnessed this accident, or who may have any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward.”
