Overnight work to tackle wear and tear along the M55 will be taking place later this week.
Carriageway surface cracks, depressions and lane rutting caused by heavy vehicles will be repaired in two different areas of the motorway, requiring overnight lane closures.
The work includes:
• £40,000 worth of repairs along a short section of the eastbound carriageway in lanes one and two at Kellet’s Bridge. This work will start on Friday, February 1 and will be completed by Sunday, February 3, requiring the closure of lane ones and two between 10pm and 6am on the three nights.
• A one night £20,000 project to remove a depression in the hard shoulder of the westbound carriageway near junction 1 of the motorway. The work will be taking place between 10pm on Saturday, February 2, and 6am on Sunday, February 3, and will require the closure of a short section of lane one and the hard shoulder.
None of the work is expected to disrupt drivers’ journeys and the motorway will remain open at all times past the roadworks.
Current delays include:
On the A590 westbound, between the junctions with the A592 and the A595, there are delays of 40 minutes due to heavy traffic. Normal traffic conditions expected from 4.30pm.
On the A590 eastbound, between the junctions with the A595 and the A592, there are currently delays of 15 minutes due to heavy traffic. Normal traffic conditions expected from 4.45pm.
On the M18 southbound, between junctions J5 and J2, there are delays of 10 minutes due to heavy traffic. Normal traffic conditions expected from 5pm.
On the M1 southbound between junctions J34 and J32, there are delays of 10 minutes caused by congestion due to an earlier broken down vehicle. Normal traffic conditions expected from 5pm.

There is traffic congestion on A6 Garstang Road in Fulwood, Preston, near hospital junction.
