Train operator Northern Rail, which runs services throughout Lancashire, has been praised for increasing the amount of waste recycled at its stations from 25 per cent to 40 per cent over the past 12 months.
The company has been given an above average three-star rating in the Corporate Responsibility Index for its efforts in sustainability.
To encourage recycling by customers and employees at its stations and depots, Northern has developed greener initiatives which have also resulted in recycling rates at its engineering works from 50 per cent to 72 per cent.

“As our recycling rates rise, so does our recognition on the Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index which is a valuable benchmark for any business.”
