Heavy traffic has built up on the northbound section of the M6 and M61 after a water bowser being towed by a lorry became detached.

The trailer was left in the middle lane of the northbound carriageway of the M6, half a mile before junction 31 at the Tickled Trout.

Police were called at 10.52am on Wednesday and diversions were put in place while the bowser was recovered.

All lanes have now reopened, but congestion is still affecting the area.
