Fire fighters had to rescue a woman who was trapped in her car after a collision this afternoon.

Preston fire fighters attended an incident involving a white Peugeot van and a black Ford Fusion on Whittingham Lane at 3.55pm.

They used cutters to free the woman from the Ford car and Lancashire police confirmed that she has been taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at shortly before 4pm this afternoon to reports of a two vehicle collision on Whittingham Lane.

“The female driver of the Ford has been freed from the car and has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

“The two occupants of the van were treated at the scene by paramedics.

“Whittingham lane was closed and we are still at the scene.”
