‘The shed of dread’, ‘The Crudmobile’, ‘Brian’ and ‘Cactus Jack’ are just some of the weird and wonderful names drivers have given to their beloved cars, according to a survey.

According to the poll by the AA Driving School, four out of ten drivers have given their car a name, with women far more likely than men to have named a car, with half saying they have done so compared to a third of men.

Jim Kirkwood, managing director of the AA Driving School, said: “Most drivers spend a lot of time in their cars and depend on them for the smooth running of their daily lives, so it’s perhaps not too surprising that they name them like another member of the family.”

A third of drivers said they decided on a moniker based on the car’s registration number while 18-24 year olds were the most likely age group to name their vehicle.
