A six-month motorway roadwork scheme is set to end later this month.
The Highways Agency’s £7 million project to reduce congestion around the Broughton Interchange, Junction 32 of the M6, started in May 2014 and should be completed at the end of October.
The project is one of 123 in the Government’s £317 million ‘pinch-point’ initiative and involves widening the northbound M6 carriageway right through to the junction.
But a spokesman for the Highways Agency informed motorists that some overnight closures will continue as the project nears completion.
The spokesman said: “A project is being carried out to reduce congestion around the motorway junction which connects the M6 to the Blackpool-bound M55.
“There will be narrow lanes, plus some overnight slip road and carriageway closures until the project is completed in October.”
Elsewhere in the county a scheme to solve a drainage problem on a stretch the M6 motorway should be completed next week.
The Highways Agency is repairing and improving drainage on a mile long section from Junction 34 Lancaster to Junction 33 Garstang.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: “The scheme, just north of junction 33, is due to be completed by Sunday, October 19.
“There is currently one lane closed on the southbound side of the motorway, and a 50mph speed limit is in place for safety reasons.”
However work on another drainage scheme is set to continue into November as the Highways Agency announced a 24-hour lane closure.
Maintenance work is underway between Junction 35 Carnforth to Junction 38 Brough on the M6.
And a Highways Agency spokesman warned of further overnight closures.
He said: “A scheme is underway to improve drainage on sections of the M6 between junctions 35 and 38.
“The work requires the closure parts of Lane One on the northbound side of the motorway, 24 hours a day, along with parts of Lane One on the southbound side overnight, between 8pm and 6am.
“Sections of the hard shoulder will also be closed.
“The work is due to be completed by mid-November.”
A major project is taking place at Junction 26 on the M6 motorway, the Orrell Interchange. Extra lanes and traffic lights will be added to the junction with the M58 and the A577. The work requires initial overnight closures of the link road between 10pm and 5am. The junction will remain open for vehicles travelling between the M6 and the M58.
