Drivers using the M6 through Lancashire this weekend have been advised of an overnight closure at Gathurst Viaduct.
Routine maintenance and repair work is taking place along the bridge and the southbound carriageway of the motorway will be closed between Junction 27 and Junction 26 from 10pm on Saturday night until 9am on Sunday morning.
A clearly-signed diversion through Wigan will be in place. From Junction 27 at Standish, drivers will be sent along the eastbound A5209 Almond Brook Road, southbound A49 Wigan Road into Wigan and then the westbound A577 Ormskirk Road out of Wigan, back to the motorway at Junction 26 at Orrell Interchange.
The £31,000 overnight project includes repairing bridge deck waterproofing and renewing road markings and studs - providing safer and smoother journeys for drivers.
