Town hall bosses in part of Lancashire are to investigate whether more employees can work from home in a bid to reduce the amount of traffic travelling to council offices.
Wyre councillors heard the suggestion as part of a report on ‘greener’ travelling.
Members of the authority’s overview and scrutiny committee were told that just seven per cent of the council’s workforce use public transport to get to work and just three per cent cycle.
Despite that, the committee was told a staff survey had revealed that around 10 per cent of those who responded would consider walking to work if paths were better.
And a number of others said they would be interested in a scheme where employees can buy cycles at a cheaper rate by sacrificing part of their salary.
A report from the meeting said that a presentation was given by human resources advisor Jane Collier.
It added: “An Action Plan had been devised in response to the survey’s findings.
“It focused on raising awareness, promoting cycling and car sharing, health promotion and homeworking.”
It said that, following the meeting “the increased use of homeworking was to be investigated and was included in the Action Plan.”
