North West Euro-MP Paul Nuttall has dismissed the latest Government report into the benefits of the proposed HS2 high-speed rail link.
The scheme, which would link London with the northwest, the Midlands and Yorkshire, is expected cost around £43bn, raising £2.30 in benefits for every pound spent.
Mr Nuttall, UK Independence Party (UKIP) deputy leader, said: “Initially we were told this project was all about speed, now we are being told it’s about capacity.
“What they’ll never admit it is that the cost will just keep growing like Topsy.
“Meanwhile they keep commissioning taxpayer funded reports to support a losing position, just throwing more money at this vanity project.
“UKIP is winning the argument against HS2 and it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Government are all over the shop.”
