Speeding drivers are getting the “slow down” message loud and clear from safety-conscious children on a Preston estate.

The youngsters have all put their names to a campaign to make motorists obey the 20 miles per hour limit near their homes in Moor Nook.

With a slogan of “20 Is Plenty In Our Community,” the children of Moor Nook Youth Group have all signed an eye-catching banner which they hope will put a brake on vehicles going too fast.

“The boys and girls are very safety-minded and they know speeding is dangerous,” said Joanne Such, chairman of the Moor Nook Estate Management Board.

“They wanted to design a banner which would catch the attention of drivers and, maybe, slow some of them down.

“There are a lot of children who play out in Moor Nook and, if motorists don’t take any notice of the 20mph speed limits, there could be a serious accident.”

The banner, which contains messages and drawings from the youngsters, is part of a Lancashire County Council safety campaign to get drivers to adhere to the
new 20mph limits in built-up areas.

Ms Such added: “This is to make people more aware of the 20 zones and to obey them.

“The speed limits are there for a reason, but they can’t be policed all of the time.

“There’s not a lot anyone can do if drivers don’t want to stick to the speed limit.

“But if a message like this comes from a group of children then it might have an effect on some of them.”
