A bus service running between Preston and Blackpool has been suddenly axed.

Classic Bus North West ceased to run its No. 80 service between Blackpool and Preston via Poulton and Great Eccleston, with effect from last Friday.

The service had run seven days a week.

Lancashire County Council said Classic Bus North West had terminated the service without the required 56 days notice to the traffic commissioner.

An evening and Sunday service has also stopped.

Nicola Bamber, from Elswick, said her sons relied on a local bus service to get to Cardinal Newman College in Preston.

She said: “We live in a rural location and there are a lot of older people who can’t or no longer drive and they need access to the local hospitals – how are they supposed to get out?”

The county council said it would inform the traffic commissioner of Classic Bus North West’s actions.

Classic Bus North West Ltd had only registered to operate the new service earlier this month.

The Lancashire Evening Post was unable to contact the company for a comment.
