Elderly and disabled residents could be left stranded in their homes following a cut to a bus service, it has been claimed.
One bus user said: “My wife uses the bus a lot and so do a lot of my neighbours, some of whom are elderly or disabled.
“These people cannot cross a busy road and walk into Torrisholme to get another bus. They will effectively be cut off.”
Torrisholme ward councillor Roger Dennison said: “It is a concern that no information was provided to local councillors about this significant change.”
A spokesman for Stagecoach said: “From March 4, most services on the 40/41 service will terminate at Lancaster Bus Station where connections are available on a variety of services to Morecambe.
“Stagecoach are facing a substantial cut in reimbursement rates for concessionary travel from Lancashire County Council.
“Given the frequent services to Morecambe and Heysham, and low passenger numbers travelling from Preston past Lancaster on the 40/41, this was identified as a low impact change that will help sustain the service.”
