Police and Lancashire County Council officials have tonight removed temporary traffic lights on the A59 near Preston after reports of massive tailbacks.

The temporary lights were believed to have been installed by United Utilities while it carried out repair works.

Motorists were reporting major congestion in the Much Hoole area.

It was centred on the westbound carriageway between Knoll Lane and the Tarleton traffic lights.

One angry motorist tweeted :“Well done United Utilities ....took one hour to go two miles.”

Lancashire police tweeted at around 7pm: “We have just attended the temporary traffic lights on the A59 Tarleton and removed them .....traffic will be moving shortly.”
