New route is due in four years

A rail route between Preston and Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Bolton Station, is due to be up and running in four years time.

FirstGroup are set to take over the running of the West Coast Main Line subject to the contract being signed by the Government.

It is currently the subject of a legal challenge, which the Government says it intends to “defend robustly”.

Under the contract First West Coast is required to consider and try to implement the new Preston to Manchester service from December 11, 2016.
