Hundreds of spectators gathered to watch army forces and government rebels come to blows in Preston in tonight’s night-time re-enactment show.

The ‘Last Battle’ reenactment event commemorated the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Preston, which saw Scottish and English Jacobite rebels clash with the British government forces.

The rebels supported the former British king, James II, who had been overthrown in 1688, while the ‘Redcoats’ supported the current king, George I.

Actors dressed as Redcoats and Jacobites performed the battle at Church Street just outside St John’s Minster in Preston at around 4.30pm.
