Tom put big smile on town's centre
The work of a Chorley community leader has been recognised with the presentaion of a prestigious award.
Tom Watson, who's best known for his work at Tatton Community Centre, has been honoured by Chorley Council after deciding to step down from some of his community roles for health reasons.
He said: "It's a great honour to receive the Chorley Smile Award but my greatest reward is to know the groups I work with and the projects I've been involved with have been successful.
"I wouldn't be getting this award if it wasn't for the people I work with and the dedicated individuals who have played their part in everything I've done."
Tom, who first got involved in community work after suffering a work-related injury, said one of his biggest satisfactions was helping re-build Tatton Community Centre after it was burnt down.
The community building was a target for vandals but is now a well-used community facility.
As well as chairing Tatton Community Association he has led it into community management and helped it become a registered charity, which has raised over 60,000 to upgrade the centre.
He's also been involved with the Chorley Play Partnerships.
Tom will continue as the chairperson of Positive Action in Chorley East .
Council leader Peter Goldsworthy said: "Tom has played a huge role in strengthening the community in Chorley East and he thoroughly deserves this award."
