Great-grandfather Bob Howard was so impressed with the gardening efforts of Penwortham Women’s Institute, he decided to donate more than 600 bulbs.
The women transformed an area in Pope Lane Park to provide better biodiversity for bees and pollinators.
Mr Howard, 87, said: “The women are a lovely bunch and what they have done is absolutely marvellous. I would pass and stop and say hello and they were doing such a good job that I wanted to do something to help so offered to buy them daffodil bulbs for the spring.
“It is only a small gesture to show my appreciation for their hard work and my late wives both loved daffodils so it will be a fitting tribute to them.”
