A 16-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital with head injuries after a sledging accident.

Both air and road ambulances as well as the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue team were called to Parbold Hill, Parbold, near Wigan, at 3.45pm today.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), said: “The girl was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital suffering from head injuries.”

The severity of the girl’s condition is unknown.

Snow has blanketed much of the North West, but central Lancashire has escaped with only a small smattering.
