Teen relives her gang ‘robbery’ nightmare

A teenager today told how she was followed home by a group of thugs who punched her to the floor and started kicking her in a “cowardly” attempted robbery.

The 17-year-old, from Fulwood, who has asked to remain anonymous, had been drinking with two female friends in the Black Bull pub, Black Bull Lane, Fulwood, from about 8pm on Saturday.

The Newman College student, who says she had split with her boyfriend the previous day, left at around 10.30pm and started walking home.

But, believing she was being followed, she diverted off Black Bull Lane into Broadway.

The gang of four young men, all dressed in black, demanded she hand over her mobile phone and cash.

When she ignored them she was punched in the back of the head, falling to the floor, before several kicks rained in on her.

The gang only ran off when she started screaming.

Today the teenager, who did not suffer serious injuries, spoke out in a bid to jog the memories of anyone who may have seen the assault.

She said: “I was walking home and turned off Black Bull Lane because I thought I was being followed but I thought I was just being paranoid.

“But as I turned into Broadway they grabbed hold of me and hit me, I think I was punched.

“I fell down on my bag and I was kicked, but I screamed so they ran off.

“I was a bit nervous when I saw them but I thought I was being paranoid.

“I didn’t see them, they were wearing black clothing.

“When I turned round I got a glimpse of one of them but that was it.

“I have been worried about going out on my own, I have not been out on my own since.”

Detectives investigating the attack say it happened at around 10.45pm. The attempted robbers did not get away with any money or property.

Det Sgt John Crichton, of Preston CID, said: “It is very unusual to have a robbery offence of this nature in that area and it seems to be a very cowardly attack on a young girl walking home at night.

“I would appeal to any residents who saw what happened, or anyone who saw a group of males hanging around that area at about that time to get in touch with us.”

The only description police have is that the gang consisted of four men, all dressed in black, and one had a stocky build.

Anyone with information can call Preston police on 01772 203203 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
