Teachers praised in Balls visit

Schools Secretary Ed Balls visited students at a north Lancashire high school.

Mr Balls stopped off Carnforth High School where he spoke to members of its student council, along with headteacher John Shannon, Morecambe and Lunesdale MP Geraldine Smith and Helen Denton, Lancashire County Council's children and young people executive director.

Mr Balls asked what the teachers were like.

Ellis Rucastle, 13, told him: "They're good – and they don't talk down to you."

Mr Shannon said: "We were very proud to welcome the secretary of state to our school, and we are sure he was impressed by what he saw and by meeting the school council.

"Ed Balls was particularly impressed by the warm and positive way in which students spoke about all aspects of school life, including how we tackle bullying, the welcome new students receive and the skill of the teaching staff."

Ms Denton added: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to tell the secretary of state about the great work we are doing here in Lancashire."
