Tavern B Goode

Have your say

The Market Tavern might just be my new favourite Preston city centre pub.

Having not crossed the threshold this decade I popped for a jar Tuesday evening just before 7 on way between desk and domicile and entered an atmosphere lively as any given Saturday.

A decent crowd for a cosy pub, jukebox knocking out gems – Johnny B Goode, arguably the single greatest rock and roll tune ever recorded soundtracked my first sip – voices raised in song, laughter ringing out –

Not the desired ambience if you’re out to quietly examine your navel, no, but trust me – two jars on I trundled off enlivened.

Two good jars too.

A pint of Outstanding Beers (of Bury) Stout that slipped down easy as the G-word, and looked just as handsome in the glass.

Roasty with bitter notes, dry and with sweet liquorice aftertaste, a lovely stout.

Chasing this down the hatch a pint of Iron Maiden. Yes, THAT Iron Maiden, the noisy twits having followed Quo and produced a beer bearing their name brewed by Robinsons.

And not a bad drop it is either, a coppery brew, heavy on the bitterness with a slight citrus flourish at the end.

Proud of your pub? Tell us why we should pop in for a jar.
