And no, it’s not the next twist in another comic film by Warner Bros Pictures, it’s the wedding of a couple from Chorley who are getting hitched in superhero costumes.

Groom Lee Burns said: “I proposed to my partner Kirsty Walkden in front of an audience at a convention in Wigan back in November 2015.

“I was dressed as Batman and she was Wonder Woman.

“She was completely surprised which is why I did it that way and the moment was even caught on film.”

Since then full time dad Lee and fiancee Kirsty, 37, an A&E nurse at Chorley and South Ribble hospital, have had a baby girl together called Robyn.

As a family they attend conventions all over the North West in Bolton, Wigan, Southport, Manchester and Liverpool.

They get autographs from actors, have had their portraits done by comic artists.

Lee said: “Before we had even met each other we liked fancy dress. Neither of us had gone to a comic convention before but I have always been interested in geeky things like that. The first time we went we didn’t wear costumes but we saw everyone in their costumes.

“When we went again in out outfits we got such a positive reception we just thought it was such a nice environment.

“Because we really enjoy comic-cons and Wigan was where I proposed, we decided we wanted our big day to tie into that.”

The duo are to be wed on Saturday, June 3, at Chorley registry office dressed to the nines in their best superhero threads.

Lee, 34, is planning on adapting his Batman costume with a gold cape and gold armour on his boots and arms.

Meanwhile Kirsty is keeping her bride costume under wraps. The couple’s 18 month old Robyn will be donning a custom dress made from fabric imitating comic books.

Following the wedding everyone will troupe over to the Wigan Comic-Con for the day before heading off to a party at The Ley Inn in Clayton-le-Woods. “This is where we will be having speeches, cutting the cake and generally celebrating being newly weds with 100 of our close friends and family,” said Lee.
