A group of super slimmers has lost a staggering 24,395 and a half pounds - the equivalent of seven cars.

The 84 Slimming World groups across Preston have lost a combined 1,742.5 stones over the last six months.

And Joanne Shaw, Preston’s team development manager from Bamber Bridge, was invited on ITV1’s Lorraine show for a make-under to celebrate.

She believes the secret to their success is all nine consultants have faced their own weight loss battles.

She said: “We all know what it feels like to be overweight and we have all lost weight.

“What is so special about our group is the use of image therapy. We sit down one-on-one and help people plan for the week ahead, if they are going to a party, how can they stick to their diet and how to overcome everyday obstacles.”

Mother-of-three Joanne once weighed 25 and a half stone but over the last 10 years she has shed more than half of that weight.

Overall the 84 branches have 22,000 members and consultant Nicola Evans, who has groups in Garstang, Ribbleton and Fulwood urged her to check the figures.

Joanne said: “Nicola asked me to have a count and when I read the figures I was shocked, I can’t believe it, it is the equivalent of seven Audi TTs.”

Joanne appeared on Lorraine’s show last week.

She said: “I said I didn’t need a makeover but then someone suggested getting a make under. I wore loads of make-up and jewellery when I was overweight but I didn’t stop wearing big jewellery or make-up when I lost it. I didn’t like the result though, I’m not going to change!”
