Students warned of 'silent killer'

Students and landlords are being warned of a silent killer as part of a campaign to cut the number of deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Every year the gas kills as many as 50 people in the UK and many more become seriously ill.

Many of those affected are students living in rented accommodation.

Now the Health and Safety Executive and Lancaster Council have developed posters and leaflets to warn students of the dangers.

Because it is invisible, has no taste or smell, carbon monoxide is often called the silent killer.

The main signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are headaches, nausea, light-headedness and dizziness.
