Search on for stars
The search is on to find young stars of the stage to join the National Youth Theatre.
Auditions will take place in Manchester in February 2009. Applications can now be made by visiting www.nyt.org.uk
Places are open to anyone between the ages of 13 to 21, while technical applicants are welcomed between the ages of 16 and 21.
Woman rescued by coastguards
A blind woman had to be rescued by coastguards and taken to hospital in an ambulance after becoming disorientated on a Lancashire beach.
The woman was strolling on the beach at Morecambe at 11am yesterday when she got lost and her guide dog lay down to stop her going further. She called emergency services on her mobile phone and was led to safety.
Offy keeps its license
An off licence which sold booze to underage teens has kept its licence.
JS Food and Wine has been able to keep its premises licence after the business was sold by owner Santhakumary Valasingam to a relative.
The shop had also become a magnet for anti-social behaviour in the area. South Ribble Council has ordered that CCTV must be installed. The new owner has applied to transfer the premises' licence into his name.
Evacuation after arson
A man had be rescued from a first floor flat after the shop below caught fire.
Fire crews broke down the door of the property on Bence Rood in Frenchwood at 10.15pm on Monday. A 59-year-old man was led to safety by firefighters, but did not require hospital treatment.
A Lancashire fire and rescue service spokesman said: "It was a convenience store which had a load of plastic pallets outside and someone had set them on fire."
The shop's window frame, canopy and fascia were damaged by the blaze and the flat was heavily smoke-logged.
Workshop bid
An empty workshop in Chapel Brow, Longridge, near Preston, could be turned into a home. Ribble Valley Council is considering the application.
Shows to get sign language
A sign language interpreter will be on hand to help deaf audience members understand shows at Preston Charter Theatre this season.
Michael Boe will be available for performances of Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story on Thursday at 7.30pm and The Extra Factor on Thursday October 2 at 7.30pm
He will also be interpreting Annie on Thursday November 6 at 7.30pm and Aladdin on Friday December 19 from 7pm.

Heat is on at church sale
An auction will help raise money to heat a church in Penwortham.
The auction and table top sale will be held at St Mary's Hall in Cop Lane on October 25.
About 250 lots will be auctioned from 1pm, with viewings from 9am.
The church aims to raise some of the 50,000 needed for new heating.
School marks 50th birthday
Weeton Primary School will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an open afternoon.
The mayor of Fylde Coun Susan Fazackerely will be at the event on October 1.
Mayor holds charity night
Fylde mayor Coun Susan Fazackerely will hold a Virgin Vie cosmetics evening in aid of her mayoral charities.
The event takes place at the Clifton Arms Hotel, Lytham, from 7.30pm on October 1.
Farm produce
A famers' market takes place in Preston this weekend. Local produce and crafts will be on sale on the outdoor market between 10am and 4pm on Sunday.
History talks
Leyland Historical Society will hold a drop-in session to meet members and find out about the society at Leyland Library on Saturday from 10am till noon.
On the cards
Ribbleton tots can make spooky cards on Friday from 2pm-3pm. Under fives are invited to a Halloween card-making session at the library in Ribbleton Hall Drive.
Festival flicks
Young filmmakers are to see their movies screened at a national festival.
Charles Leek, 17, of Brinscall, near Chorley, and Liam Treacy, 20, of Heysham, will have films at the Co-Operative Young Filmmakers' Festival at the National Media Museum in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
The two-day festival takes place on October 9 and 10.
Burglar's 1,000 musical haul
A DJ had discs worth 1,000 stolen from his home.
A burglar entered a house in Douglas Lane, Grimsargh, near Preston, between noon on September 16 and 11am on September 19.

Try to join celebrity cast
Wannabe singers can win the chance to tread the boards of the Charter Theatre at open auditions for a new stage show.
Producers of the hit play The Extra Factor are looking for a local singer to take a cameo role on October 3 and 4.
Auditions will be held in the Guild Hall on Thursday, October 2 from 7pm with the winner selected by the celebrity cast. The winner will perform in shows at the Charter Theatre alongside Anthony Costa, Kevin Kennedy and Kelle Bryan.
Pub is into all that jazz...
Jazz will be on the bill at a Preston pub later this month.
Guitarist Mike Walker will play at the New Continental, on South Meadow Lane, from 9pm on September 28. Saxophonist Harold Salisbury also plays.

Ribbleton Library's Spooky Tales Storytime takes place every Wednesday from 1.45pm to 2.45pm.
School camp is top class
A Lancashire school has scooped a top green award.
Pilling St John's CE , near Garstang, was awarded first prize in the BSI British Standards GetGreenGo competition, which asked schools to make their summer events as sustainable as possible.
The school created an eco-friendly outdoor camp in which they held a class sleepover.
