Inquest postponed
The inquest into the death of motorcyclist Ryan Acaster has been postponed. A jury was due to hear evidence yesterday into the 17-year-old's death on a dirt track near Martin Mere in 2007. Mr Acaster, from Brinscall, near Chorley, died after riding into wire strung between two trees. Preston Coroners Court has re-listed the case for February 22.
Coun Jim Hothersall: An apology
Am article in the Evening Post on January 6, 'Safer now...', stated Mayor of Penwortham Coun Jim Hothersall had described the Kingsfold estate in Penwortham as being like Beirut.
Coun Hothersall has asked us to point out that he never described the estate as being like Beirut.
In fact, in a previous article he had quoted another councillor as describing the area in such terms.
We apologise for any confusion caused.
Bus passenger taken to hospital
A bus passenger was taken to hospital after a double decker crashed into a car on a Preston street.
It happened at 1.25pm yesterday outside the Spar shop in Plungington Road, Preston. It is believed the bus passenger fell as the two vehicles collided. A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said the patient was taken to hospital with head injuries and a suspected fractured collarbone.
Town makes Britain in Bloom final
A town has again made the list of finalists for the 2010 Britain in Bloom competition.
Garstang will go up against Ahoghill, Cricklade, Hunmanby, Keswick, Long Sutton and Sedgefield in the small town category.
Nora Hoyles,
above, will again lead Garstang's bid, which will be launched on March 24.
Charity benefits from show
The St John's Occasionals will be bringing their Second World War show to the stage on January 23.
The show, at St John the Evangelist, North Road, Lancaster, will raise money for local charities and starts at 7.30pm.
Plan for nine new homes
Nine homes are planned for the site of a property in Moss Side.
Wainhomes North West has applied to demolish the house in Slater Lane, Leyland, and replace it with two-and-a-half storey homes.
Factory front
A new entrance could be created to the Leyland Trucks factory in Farington Moss. The company has applied for permission to build the 8m enclosure at the plant in Croston Road.
House call
A new home has been proposed for a street in Longton. Plans have been submitted for the detached dwelling in School Lane.
Dairy farms down by 6%
The number of dairy farmers in Lancashire has dropped by 4% in a year.
And the number of dairy holdings is down 6%.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs reveals there were 1,531 dairy farmers in the county in 2007, compared to 1,477 in 2008.
Zine of the times for art
Browse a range of art at a Preston exhibition.
The Lancashire Zine Artists' Book and Multiple Fair will take place in the Students' Union at UCLan, on Friday January 29, from 10am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

Motorbikes set ablaze
Two motorbikes were torched at the back of a shopping centre.
The Suzuki 250 and
N-registered moped were well alight when Preston firefighters arrived at Deepdale Retail Park at around 8.30pm on Monday.
The incident was quickly brought under control. A spokesman for Preston fire and rescue said petrol cans were found nearby.
Arsonists target car
Arsonists set fire to a car and left it burning at the bottom of a street.
The Toyota was found ablaze at the end of Fowler Lane, Bamber Bridge.
The incident happened at around 9.30pm, on Monday. It took a fire crew from Bamber Bridge station around 15 minutes to bring it under control.
Dog saved from canal
A dog had to be rescued from a Preston canal.
Firefighters in drysuits used an inflatable walkway to get to the pet, which had fallen into the canal close to Tudor Avenue, Lea.
The incident happened at 5.03pm on Monday. The dog was unhurt.
Talk held on vital rail line
A talk is set to take place tonight about one of the most important railway lines in the country.
The West Coast Main Line is widely regarded as one of the most important arterial routes in Britain. Simon Maple, former programme director for the West Coast Route Modernisation programme will give a talk at the Swallow Hotel, Samlesbury, from 7pm.
New date for snow-hit meet
South Ribble Council has rearranged a meeting cancelled due to the snow. The meeting of the council which was due on January 6 will now be held on January 20 at Leyland Civic Centre from 6pm.
Vehicles hit
A truck and a car were involved in a collision in Bamber Bridge. It happened at 8.20am on Tuesday at the roundabout near the M65 and Sainsbury's, Cuerden Way. A police spokesman said: "There were no injuries."
