Step into the bright lights for charity
People are being asked to enjoy a walk through Blackpool's famous illuminations while raising money for a local blind charity.
Galloway's Society for the Blind, Howick House Lane, Penwortham will hold its annual sponsored walk on Friday September 18.
During the last six years, the walk has raised over 15,000 for the society.
George Turner, fundraising manager, said: "It's a pleasant five mile stroll through the greatest free show on earth and we are often told that this is the best way to see the illuminations. It is a great night out for all the family.
"Accompanied children and dogs are welcome and at the end, we even provide refreshments."

Sexual health is focus of campaign
Young people in Lancaster and Morecambe are to be given sexual health advice.
Stands will be displayed in the St Nicholas Arcade in Lancaster and the Arndale Centre in Morecambe throughout National Sexual Health Awareness Week – September 14 to 21.
Dr Frank Atherton, director of public health for NHS North Lancashire, said: "There is a variety of contraception methods available to prevent an unplanned pregnancy, and using a condom every time you have sex will reduce the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection."
The week aims to broaden young adults understanding of sexual health and relationships by increasing access to accurate information and developing people's knowledge of the choices available to them which affect their sexual health.
Vintage cars join cross county rally
Cars aged 70 and over will take part in a Preston to Morecambe rally later this month.
The Preston and District Vintage Car Club 50th Anniversary rally will see cars such as Lagondas, Bentleys, Rileys and Austins taking part in the 65 mile timed road rally.

Step up to free ballet class
People in Preston are being given the chance to attend a free ballet workshop.
Sky Arts and the English National Ballet have arranged two classes for 20 adults, regardless of their experience or fitness.
The classes will take place in Preston on Sunday September 20 at the Park School Dance Centre, Preston College.
They coincide with the English National Ballet's production of Giselle in Manchester from September 23, for which participants will get a free ticket.

Team pursues dementia lead
Researchers at Lancaster University have been awarded 40,000 to develop a potential new treatment for Alzheimer's.
The team , led by Prof David Allsop, have been working with a molecule which shows promise as a treatment in the laboratory and they are investigating its potential to help patients.
They have received the money from the UK's leading dementia research charity, the Alzheimer's Research Trust.
Prof Allsop, professor of neuroscience, said: "In Alzheimer's, toxic proteins build up in the brain. We have found a way of stopping this build-up in the test tube."
Special abbey war service
Peoplefrom Lancashire are being invited to Westminster Abbey for a National Service of Thanksgiving.
The event is to mark the passing of the First World War generation following the recent death of Harry Patch, the last UK veteran of the conflict.
Lord Shuttleworth, the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, wants to identify 28 people related or connected to someone who served in the First World War.

Soul night heads to the seaside
The Seaside Soul Club is hitting the city tonight.
The Phoenix Club in Lancaster will play host to the 'Soul in the City' event from 8.30pm.
Jason Mills, from the soul club, said: "It's a gem of a venue, especially for our type of night
"It's a venue with real soul history which the dancers certainly seem to like, as do the DJs."
Entry costs 3 on the door before 10pm or 4 after.
All that jazz raises money for charity
A charity jazz night will be held at All Hallows High School in Penwortham on Friday.
The event will take place at 7pm and the Lancashire Youth Jazz Orchestra and The All Hallows Jazz Band will present a musical extravaganza.
Tickets are 6 for adults and 3 for children. All proceeds will go to The Legacy Rainbow House.

Trains and toy fair date
A model train and toy fair is being held in Lancashire tomorrow.
It takes place at the Village Hall, Crag Bank, Carnforth, between 10am and 3pm.
Organiser John Smith said: "If you have anything stored away and want to sell it, bring it along."
Any complaints?
Trading Standards bosses handled 290m worth of complaints about dodgy home repairs or appliances last year.
Around 7,000 householders lodged complaints about home improvements services or equipment with the Consumer Direct hotline.

Cash for signs
Road signs, markings and safety schemes in the Chorley area have received a 35,000 boost.
The Lancashire Local forum has agreed on a dozen highways projects to share the cash, include 2,700 for traffic calming measures in Brindle and 900 for bollards to reduce parking problems in Croston.
Coun Mike Devaney, chairman of the Local, said: "This will help to deal with important issues."
