A round up of short stories from across Lancashire

Concert in aid of charities

The South Ribble Concert Band will perform at Hutton Village Hall on February 8 at 7.30pm.

The programme will include popular light music, film themes and music from the shows.

It is entitled “A Rainbow of Hope for Children of Africa” and proceeds will go to three small African charities:

Friends of Mulanje Orphans, Partners in Education and the Rainbow House of Hope, Uganda. Call 01772 613500.

Recycle goods to raise funds

A coffee and recycling morning will be held in St Andrew’s Church Hall in Longton on February 2.

There will be coffee and cake and the chance to recycle items including mobile phones, ink cartridges, watches, jewellery tools.

The items will be recycled through Christian Aid and other charities.

Ladies lunch in aid of charities

A ladies of achievement lunch will be held at Leyland Hotel on Friday.

The event will be hosted by the Mayoress of South

Ribble, Margaret Clark.

Proceeds will go to St Catherine’s Hospice, North West Air Ambulance and the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Ladies only PC tuition planned

Preston Council’s

Citizen Zone will be holding ladies only computer tuition in March.

The vehicle will be located on the PNE car park in St Gregorys Road.

Places are limited and so booking is necessary.

Mayor to visit train walkers

The Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Colin Clark, will greet a walking team at Leyland Railway on Saturday morning before unveiling a new Heritage Trail Board at the station.

Cotton trade history event

Lancashire Local History Federation is holding a conference called ‘The Changing Fortunes of King Cotton’ next month.

The event in the Masonic Hall in Saul Street, Preston, on Saturday, February 23, will feature four speakers.
