Frying pan fire
A frying pan fire caused smoke damage to a home in Burscough, near Preston. Firefighters visited Junction Lane at around 2pm yesterday.
Fitness course for instructors
A two-day course to become a spinning instructor will be held at Fulwood Leisure Centre, Black Bull Lane, Preston on September 28 and 29. The course to become an official SPINNING® instructor, costs £250 and will run from 9am until 6pm. Contact 01494 688285 for info.

Hotel hosts fundraiser event
The Preston Marriott Hotel will host a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care on October 3 as part of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event. Stall holders, a cake decorating demonstration and raffle will all be available between 11am and 12.30pm
Funds for cats
The Preston branch of Cats Protection is holding a table top sale to raise funds for the charity at St Mary’s Church Hall, Cop Lane, Penwortham, on Saturday September 28 between 10am and 11.30am.
An early autumn walk that will look at wildlife by the River Ribble will set off from Fishwick recreation ground car park at 10am on October 1.
Delve into the history of Preston’s largest cotton manufacturer at The Harris Museum on October 2 from 6pm.
Free internet for beginners session

Preston history museum lecture
Learn about the history of Preston’s largest cotton manufacturer at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery on Wednesday October 2. The Horrockses Story lecture will take place from 6pm to 7.30pm and will be delivered by historian Dr David Hunt. Tickets are £3. Call 01772 905414
Tickets on sale for sports award
The Lancashire Sports Awards will take place on Friday October 11 at De Vere Village Hotel Herons’ Reach in Blackpool. The judging panel have met to consider 84 nominations in eight categories before the gala ceremony. For tickets, go to www.lancashiresport.org.uk
People can help add colour and aid wildlife by taking part in a bulb planting session on Preston’s Moor Park on Saturday October 12. The free event will take place from 1pm to 3pm at the park on Garstang Road. Meet at the rangers pavilion.
Sample the delights of Italy at Preston Flag Market on Wednesday October 16. An Italian Market will take place from 9am to 6pm. Entry is free and there will be stalls selling Italian fare.
Popular run to return to city

The next Bamber Bridge PACT meeting will be held outside Morrisons in Withy Grove Road on October 5 from 2pm. The session is a chance for the public to meet the police.
Football stand application
Longridge Town Football Club have applied for planning permission for a spectator stand at their ground in Inglewhite Road more than a year after it was built. The club have also asked Preston City Council for permission to re-site a storage unit and alter the car park.
Detectives are appealing for information after an assault in Lancaster. The incident happened at around 6.30pm on Thursday September 19 at the junction of Moore Gate and Ulster Road outside Cutting Corners hairdressers.

Quiz in aid of Space Centre
