Avenham Park New Year walk

Start the New Year on a healthy note by joining the Preston park ranger’s first event of 2013 – a guided ramble through Avenham Park.

The two hour walk, part of the Tuesday at Ten series, starts from Avenham Park pavilion at 10am to explore the River Ribble and Preston Junction nature reserve.

Music quiz fun on Boxing Day

The Mad Ferret is to help customers digest their Christmas feast with a Boxing Day music quiz.

Beaver and Boonys Big Bonanza Music Quiz runs from 8pm at the Fylde Road pub with prizes for the best Christmas jumper, mulled wine and spiced cider on sale and prizes for winners.

Violence is up over Christmas

Festive domestic violence increases every year in part of Lancashire, figures have revealed.

There is an average increase of 22 per cent of reports of domestic violence in West Lancashire between December and January.

Tickets for gig are on sale

Tickets for two concerts in aid of Preston’s Space Centre are on sale.

The two concerts will take place on January 3 at Preston Grasshoppers.

The afternoon concert features The Houghton Weavers and the evening includes The Rockits and Stephen Bayliss.

Association’s offices closed

New Fylde Housing’s offices will close at 12pm on Christmas eve and will open again at 8.30am on January 2.

The Customer Services Centre will not be open between these times.

Damage done to parked van

The offside driver’s window of a van parked on Harris Street, Preston, was smashed and a sat nav stolen.

The incident happened between 5am and 6.30am on Sunday morning.

The offender approached the Vauxhall Vivaro and stole the sat nav which was in the cradle on the windscreen.

Collision on motorway

Fire crews from Chorley fire station were called to a collision on the M61 motorway.

The crew was called to an incident on Saturday evening involving two vehicles on the northbound carriageway at the junction of Bolton West/Rivington services.

None of the drivers were trapped.

Guided ramble to take place

A guided ramble through Hoghton, near Preston, is set to take place tomorrow morning.

To take part meet at Hoghton Community

Centre, off Blackburn Old Road for a 10am start.

The free ramble is run by volunteers, there is no need to book.

Mayor to join Christmas fun

The Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Colin Clark will attend the Leyland Older People’s Christmas party on Friday afternoon.

The party will be held at the Civic Centre, Leyland.

The Mayor will arrive at 1.45pm.

New Progress Housing Association has announced its Christmas opening time.

Its offices will close at 12pm on Christmas Eve and will open again at 9am on Wednesday January 2.

Firefighters rescued a Chihuahua that had become stuck in the curled round leg of a coffee table.

Crews were called to Gisburn Road, Ribbleton, Preston, at 6.30pm on Sunday evening to the 14-week-old dog that had become trapped in the table.

The fire-fighters removed the leg from the table and then used a hack saw to free the dog.

They were there for 30 minutes.

A road closure will be in place along Adelphi Place in Preston on Sunday December 30 and Monday December 31.

BT will be carrying out work to install a pole in a new location and recover a redundant pole in the footway.

An inquest into the death of a 17-year-old motorcyclist killed in a car crash is scheduled to be held at Preston Coroner’s Court today.

Preston College pupil Mihaly Besnyi, of Ashton, Preston, was riding a 125cc Honda motorbike when he was involved in a collision with a black Ford Fiesta in Lytham Road, Fulwood, on March 21.

The car was being driven by an 85-year-old Preston woman, who was not injured.

Camra’s Central Lancashire branch is to hold its first meeting of 2013 at the Potters Arms in Chorley.

Preston, Chorley, South Ribble and Longridge’s Campaign for Real Ale supporters will meet on January 21 at 8pm.
