European gift market in city
A European gift market will be held at Preston Flag Market on Wednesday October 23. The travelling market provides a selection of goods, gifts and food offers. It will take place from 10am to 5pm and entry is free. For more details about the market, call Brett Halket on 07842 691355.
Kick the habit for Stoptober
Central Lancashire’s Stop Smoking Service is encouraging smokers to kick the habit as part of the national Stoptober campaign. Free Stoptober packs are available at www.stoptober.smokefree.nhs.uk. To find out about one to one clinics, call 0800 328 6297.
Fence set alight
Firefighters were called to Sainsbury’s store in Morecambe after part of a fence was set on fire. They put out the burning panel at 8.30pm on Sunday.
Blood donors are needed at Our Lady and St Edwards Church in Fulwood, Preston. The sessions on Thursday, October 31 from 1.45pm to 3.45pm and 5pm to 7.30pm.
Tickets on sale for charity ball
A Halloween Ball will be held at Wellington Park Hotel in Leyland on October 26 in aid of the NSPCC. It starts at 7.30pm and there will be three course meal. Fancy dress is optional. Tickets are priced at £35 or £325 for a table of ten. There will be an auction and a tombola, call 01772 616542.
Band appoints new player
A popular band has appointed a new trombone player. Ross Johnson has taken up the position of principal trombone in Leyland Band. He was previously a member of the Porthywaen Silver Band in Shropshire and he is also a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
