Motorbikes at the ready

Motorbike enthusiasts are invited to get involved in a motorbike sprint next weekend. Hoghton Tower at Hoghton near Preston will host the Hoghton Tower Motorcycle Sprint on Sunday, March 24 which sees the famous long drive as the centrepiece for a test of nerves and skill. Competitors will compete for glory at this very popular national event with admission £10 per person. Children free accompanied by an adult. To take part please phone 07847 136171.

Raise cash for charity

A sponsored walk and cycle for Christian Aid will take place on March 23. The bike ride is a 15 or 20 mile circuit. It will start from either New Longton Methodist Church, Much Hoole Methodist Church, Bretherton Congregational Church, St James’ Church, Moss Side, or Midge Hall Methodist Church. The sponsored walk, which is a two-mile circuit which will be walked 10 times, will start from New Longton Village Hall. For more information, call 01772 613500.

Getting hands on at museum

The Harris Museum and Art Gallery is holding a workshop for visually impaired people today. The Preston venue will host a session on how to turn textural collages into prints. The workshop takes place from 2pm to 4.30pm. Call 01772 905414 to book as space is limited.

Shoppers get bills roadshow

Shoppers can find out how to save money on energy bills at a roadshow in Preston tomorrow. The Citizenzone vehicle will visit Lidl car park on Strand Road from 10am to 4pm to hand out details on the People Power scheme.

Pop up shop to inform shoppers

Lancashire County Council are soon to begin work on improving the approaches to Preston. For those wishing to gain an insight into the plans, a pop up shop will be available from next week to inform people about the Fishergate Central Project and what will be involved. Between Tuesday March 19 until Saturday March 23, the former ‘Supercuts’ shop, Fishergate Centre will be open from 10am until 2pm. For more information contact Ginette Unsworth on 01772 536002.

Next blood donation event

Two sessions will be held next Tuesday for people wishing to donate blood. The events will take place at Preston Masonic Hall, Saul Street, Preston, between 10am and noon and between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Anyone who would like more information on giving blood can call 0300 123 23 23.

Jumble sale to save the cats

The Preston branch of the Cats Protection League will host a jumble sale this weekend to raise vital funds. Help to save a furry friend at the event held at St Leonard’s Church Hall, Marshall’s Brow, Penwortham, on Saturday, March 16, from 11am. For more information, contact 0845 177 0708.

Keep watch for spring signs

See what signs of spring you can spot at Brockholes Nature Reserve this Sunday. Suitable for children aged eight to 13, the event will take place between 2pm and 4pm. Each place costs £2 and should be booked in advance on 01772 286364.

Benefits help desk on today

A drop in session about changes to benefits will be held in Preston today. The event, organised by Preston Council, will take place at the Town Hall in Lancaster Road between 9am and 4pm and is a chance for people to discuss how benefit changes will effect them when they come in in April. There is no need to make an appointment, just turn up.

Fun day set to take place

A charity fun day to raise cash for Help for Heroes and The Legacy Rainbow House on March 31. The event at the Broadfield Arms in Leyland Lane, Leyland, starts at 1pm and there will be lots of local bands and a variety of different stalls. Raffle prizes include a giant handmade Easter egg.

Spring time walk planned

A walk around Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve looking at early spring flowers is set to be held on Saturday March 23. Walkers will also be able to identift trees as they begin to come into leaf. The walk will start at 10.30am. There is no need to book.

Mayor to host special dinner

The Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble, Coun Colin Clark and his wife Margaret will host a charity dinner at Runshaw College on Tuesday night. It will be cooked and served by the students in the college’s restaurant.
